HIC 2013
HIC 2013 was the 21st HIC for HISA. It was held on 15-17 July 2013 at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The primary theme for the 2013 conference was Digital Health Service Delivery - The Future is Now! Each day of the conference was themed around digital health service delivery and the impact of e-health on patient journeys: designing, building and working within digital healthcare; oncology patient journey, incorporating the aged care informatics stream; and mental health patient journey, incorporating telehealth. Following are some of the highlights from the event.
Conference Wrap Up
Scientific research and ICT capabilities are advancing rapidly. Throughout the conference it was reiterated that we have a chance to drastically improve patient outcomes, but only through collaboration and co-ordination of existing facilities. Speakers emphasised that individual healthcare providers do excellent work, but are impeded by a fragmented system.
There was a call to action to improve the overall leadership for health reform. Lack of health literacy at all levels was also identified as a barrier to change. The solution put forward; well-designed, collaborative, stakeholder-managed strategies for improving health literacy for both consumers and the health workforce.
Also at the conference, ACHI, HIMAA and HISA launched the Certified Health Informatician Australasia (CHIA) program, a significant step towards improving health literacy for the health workforce.

Testimonials
This is a seriously professional conference. A cross disciplinary meeting of people shaping and delivering the future of healthcare. |
I had many stimulating conversations, and made some new friends. The conference itself was as well run as any I've attended. But much more than that was how warm, friendly and welcoming you all were. |
HIC saved me a lot of time and pain. My hospital was in the market for some clinical software. I spent hours on the HIC
exhibition floor talking to vendors and getting a deep dive of their products. This was time well spent and what I learnt influenced the 'next steps' I took
and the decision we arrived at." Hospital CIO |
