Beth is the clinical nurse coordinator of the Plastic Surgery Telehealth Service at Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia a role she has had since 2007. She has published papers on her clinical work and provides education and support for health professionals and patients throughout the state.

Dr Victoria Wade is a general practitioner and psychologist, and a Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide. Dr Wade has recently completed a PhD on the uptake and sustainability of telehealth services in Australia. She conducts research and operates clinical telehealth services with teaching hospitals, Medicare Locals, rural general practices, community care services, and professional associations.

Read Bio Michael Williams is Director of Child and Adolescent Health Service at Mackay Base Hospital, Queensland. He has been a paediatrician in Mackay for over 30 years. He has worked as a paediatrician in UK, Saudi Arabia and Canada. He is helping develop the Queensland statewide telepaediatric services in conjunction with the opening of the Queensland Children's Hospital later this year. Over the last 15 years he has undertaken telehealth consultation with associated research conducted in conjunction with the Centre for Online Health, University of Queensland. He has developed a telepaediatric service which provides sub specialty consultation for the patients of his region, as well as general paediatric consultation for those at rural sites.

Dr Turner is a Consultant Ophthamologists based at the Lions Eye Institute, Perth, Western Australia. He provides outreach services in many rural parts of Western Australian including the Kimberly, Pilbara, Goldfields and Great Southern. Telehealth has augmented these services significantly over the past few years. Angus Turner also leads the Lions Outback Vision which aims to integrate 3 streams of eye health: retinal screening, optometry and ophthalmology. The unit aims to improve access for eye services in remote and Indigenous communities to prevent vision loss. He is Associate Professor of Ophthamlology at the University of Western Australia and lectures at the Rural Clinical School with research interests in diabetic retinopathy management, telehealth and outreach service delivery. Dr Turner has worked in rural Victoria, Tasmania and has visited outreach ophthamology sities in all states and the Northern Territory.


Read Bio Dr Ewen McPhee is a rural GP since completing his intern year in 1986. He is a long term resident of Emerald Queensland, having owned my Practice since 1992. He started as a GP Supervisor in 1997 with the RACGP Family Medicine Program and has been associated with QRME and CSQTC Training Consortia since the development of Regional training. Dr McPhee has remained active in Anaesthetics and Obstetrics as a VMO Emerald Hospital, but most of my work is in primary care service delivery. He is the Practice Principal of Emerald Medical Group delivering primary care services to Emerald since 1992. He has been a member of the Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice (CQRDGP) Board on and off since its inception. In 2011/12 he served as Rural Doctors Association as Queensland President. The inaugural Board of the Central Queensland Medicare Local (CQML) was formed in July 2012, where he has been deputy chair of this primary care organisation since that time. Dr McPhee has incorporated telehealth into his practice and facilitated the excellent work of specialist clinicians in delivering remote care to country patients. This has improved patient access, reduced the costs of care and promoted quality medical education for medical students and GP Training registrars.

A/Prof Sabe Sabesan is the director of the department of medical oncology at the Townsville Cancer Centre, Townsville Hospital, Queensland and the Clinical Dean of the Townsville Clinical School, the school of medicine and dentistry at the James Cook University, Townsville ,Australia. He pioneered a large teleoncology network and a novel remote chemotherapy supervision model in north Queensland. His research interest includes areas of rural and indigenous health and telehealth.

Heather MacLaren is a Senior Occupational Therapist with extensive experience and interest in hand therapy, education and telehealth. She was a founding member of the Telehealth Plastic Surgery service at Royal Perth Hospital. Heather completed a Master of Health Professionals Education degree with a research thesis evaluating the use of patient educational information in telehealth. Heather was Chief Investigator for a State Health Research Advisory Council Research Translation Project at RPH during 2010/11, and in 2013, she worked with the WA Statewide Telehealth Service.
