Health informatics enabling clinical research: From one patient to one world followed by HISA Victoria AGM
One patient I One World
Stephen Damiani will provide an update on progress with Mission Massimo since his keynote at HIC 2014.
Prof Richard Sinnott will provide insight into broader, population-wide informatics research.
Program

Stephen Damiani President, Mission Massimo Foundation
Stephen Damiani OAM has a broad commercial background in the corporate sector and more recently started up his own businesses. Stephen has no college-level training in the biomedical arena but has had to learn much about genetics and bioinformatics over the past four years, since his son Massimo showed signs of having some rare form of Leukodystrophy. He is very keen to see the promise of the human-genome project deliver diagnostic and therapeutic benefits over the next decade. Stephen recently established the Mission Massimo Foundation, which aims to accelerate the discovery of novel genetic variations responsible for paediatric white matter disorders and to translate these findings into clinical trials and treatments.
Prof Richard Sinnott Director e-Research, University of Melbourne
He will talk about his experiences at the coalface of clinical research informatics, working with researchers in a variety of clinical fields in the EU and in Australia. He draws on a wealth of experience developing online work environments for large-scale clinical research collaborations; he has built dozens of secure web-based databases for data entry and , in multi-site studies with up to 15 countries participating.
