Program
Standards - governance of IT and benefits realisation - an incomplete evolution
John will outline the evolution of standardisation in governance of IT and its increasing emphasis on investments and benefits realisation. John has been involved in this field of standardisation from the beginning and has led international developments in standardisation in this field.
John Graham Director, itControl
John has been an international thought leader in governance of IT through his roles as Chair of the ISO/IEC JTC1 Study Group on Governance of IT and, subsequently, from 2008 to the end of 2012, as the Convener of the international working group ISO/IEC JTC1 WG6 Corporate Governance of IT, in which he has driven the development of international standards relating to the governance of IT. He has been the Project Editor for the recently published revision for ISO/IEC 38500:2015 since its inception in 2012. John continues to participate actively in Standards Australia Technical Committees, particularly IT-030 Management and Governance of ICT and IT-12-04 Security Techniques. His knowledge of IT, particularly management and governance, is broad, practical and deep, having developed over 40 years.
The linkage between digital enablers and digital transformation outcomes
For too long, too many organisations have looked to the IT specialists to lead adoption of new technologies and to realise the benefits. In the digital era, it doesn't work that way. People who have no technology background at all are taking up and exploiting digital tools to change practice, process, behaviour and outcomes. More than ever, accessing the benefits of digital transformation demands concurrent and comprehensive business change which deeply involves practically everybody in the affected space. Mark will explain the linkage between digital enablers and digital transformation outcomes, and position ISO 38500 as the ideal frame of reference for governance of digital transformation, leading to breakthrough benefits for all stakeholders.
Mark Toomey Managing Director, Infonomics
Mark is a passionate advocate for business leadership and governance of the digital agenda. The digital agenda is the way that individuals and organisations use and exploit the capabilities of digital information and communication technologies. He is a leading international expert in ISO/IEC 38500 and governance of information technology and advises board and executive, to help organisations exercise effective control over their current and future use of information technology. Mark has 35 years’ experience in planning, building, managing and repairing Information Technology solutions for small, medium and especially large businesses and government agencies. He was a major contributor to development of ISO/IEC 38500, the international standard for governance of information technology.
