This forum will provide important insight for those responsible for professional health workforce development and education as well as those involved in the practical application of health informatics in the clinical environment and who wish to foster the continuous improvement and transformation of our health system with the ICT tools and technologies available.

Presentations:

5:05 PM - Dr Ambica Dattakumar (PhD, Researcher, University of Melbourne) will describe the findings from a project funded by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council, entitled ‘Coordinated interprofessional curriculum renewal for ehealth capability in clinical health professional degrees’. The project aims to support program coordinators and directors of Australian undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs in medical and clincial professions to include ehealth (or ‘clinical informatics’) curriculum where it is not yet in place.

5:25 PM - Louise Hayes (Strategic Advisor Health Information Management for the ieMR Program, Queensland Health) & Marian Linnane (RN, clinical and business lead EMR project) will discuss Identifying the Effects of an EMR on the Clinical and Administrative Workforce. The integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR) Program within Queensland Health will represent a transformational change in hospitals and sites where it will be deployed. Despite the imperative for change and the subsequent benefits that can be gained from moving to an electronic environment, the transition is likely to be challenging for many staff. Project Aims: Identifying workforce changes and utilising tools and processes to minimise their impact on the organisation and workforce, alongside adequate stakeholder engagement, are tools in managing these business change challenges.

5:45 PM - Lee Ridoutt (Principal Consultant, Human Capital Alliance) will discuss the final Health Workforce Australia report for the Health Information Workforce Study performed through 2012. The study looked at the workforce issues and projected needs of the breadth of healthcare workers in the information–related roles, including ICT, HIMs, Informaticians.

6:05 PM Workforce training news items -

Dr Louise Schaper (PhD, CEO HISA) will provide us with a sneak peak of the new certification program, a collaboration of HISA, HIMAA and ACHI, to be launched at HIC 2013 in July.

Jo Foster (RN, Lecturer, QUT) will update us on development of the Nursing Informatics curriculum at QUT.

The presentations will be followed by refreshments and friendly networking with the AGM being held from 6:20-6:30.
