Michael Gill, Chair of the Australian National Consultative Commitee on Electronic Health (ANCCEH)
Michael will be presenting and discussing his paper 'A National Telehealth Strategy for Australia', produced by ANCCEH with support from Global Access Partners. The ANCCEH represents the major ICT industry players and other stakeholder groups and has been meeting for six years.
The paper outlines the ANCCEH's thinking as to what is important in telehealth from a systemic national perspective. Telehealth is not a local issue but offers the health system, both public and private, the opportunity to provide new models of care efficiently.

Mat Tyler, BEIP Project Manager & Carol Towers, Clinical lead from RDNS Melbourne
The BEIP (Broadband Enabled Innovation Project) is a pilot project just underway at RDNS to help demonstrate how the emerging National Broadband Network may be used to support RDNS’ clients who require medicines monitoring at home in the community. It has been funded by the Department of Business and Innovation along with several other partners including Telstra, Intel-GE Care Innovations and Latrobe University.
It will test whether the use of remote video nursing visits to support medicines monitoring at home can produce efficiencies by reducing nurse travel time. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the project and a summary of the challenges and progress to date.
Chris Ryan, Attend Anywhere, MD and Principle Telehealth Consultant
Chris Ryan will present a Telehealth state of the
nation address that will cover how far and fast things have
evolved in the past 12 months, especially in the outer public hospital sector
and report on what’s happening and where things may be
going at a local provider and national level. Chris will also discuss some of the important elements
involved, what’s needed and why in many ways established paradigms are no
more.
About Chris Ryan:
Chris
comes from a rural health background and has played a key role in the adoption
of video consulting since 1995. He
installed the first 100 video conference systems in Victorian hospitals and founded
the not-for-profit TeleHealth Victoria in 1998.
After
2 years establishing programs at The Alfred Hospital in 2001 he began developing
a distributed management model in partnership with the College of Physicians.
The
model, now in its 10th year, supports high volumes of sustainable, system
wide service exchange, using peoples own technology. The Physician Education Program for example
consists of 800+ trainees attending 3 hours of lectures weekly via video at one
of 80 hospitals across Australia and New Zealand.
Chris
is a telehealth strategy advisor to organisations including the National Health
Call Centres Network (NHCCN), Monash University and the Centre for Health
Innovation at the Alfred.
He
is a member of the American Telemedicine Association, the Australian Telehealth
Society, the AIIA, HISA and MSIA as well as a director of Attend Anywhere, an
Australian company that provides telehealth management services.
