Why data governance?

This session examines issues in Data Governance which influence the usefulness of Health Information Technology to support better health outcomes for patients, particularly with regard to data sharing across systems.

Who's presenting?

Our speakers are amongst the Queensland contingent who presented at the recent very successful Data Governance 2012 meeting held in Melbourne at the end of March, plus a reprise of one of the plenary presentations from Microsoft Amalga.

The topics will discuss Organisational level Governance processes, Privacy and PCEHR, Integration and analysis systems for patient activity and outcomes in cancer, and the vendor perspective in integration solutions for better use of clinical data.

Presentations:

Developing an Operational Health Information Management Governance Framework.
Sally-Anne Wissman, Megan Hayes: Clinical Data Services, Information and Infrastructure Division, Mater Health Services

Having graduated from QUT as a Health Information Manager in 2011, Megan took up a Graduate position at Mater Health Services in Brisbane. She joined the Clinical Data Services team and the development and implementation of the health information management framework has dominated Megan’s time over the past year.

Privacy and Effective sharing of Clinical data for Better Outcomes.
Emma Hossack: CEO, Extensia

Emma is the CEO of Extensia and involved in a number of implementations of shared electronic health record systems across Australia. The openEHR system known as RecordPoint is used in Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland. RecordPoint improves the exchange of information between healthcare providers and is particularly useful in managing aged care, indigenous health and chronic disease. Emma has been on steering committees for clients implementing the technology and has a deep and practical first-hand knowledge of the requirements of a successful project.

The National Cancer Data Strategy for Australia – OASys, the Qld solution.
Dr Dannie Zarate: Biostatistician, Qld Cancer Control Analysis Team (QCCAT)

Dr Dannie Zarate is a statistician for the Queensland Cancer Control Analysis Team (QCCAT), a Queensland Health unit responsible for consolidating cancer data across the state to support clinician peer reviews and benchmarking of health service quality and safety. Dr.Zarate is currently coordinating the construction of an end-to-end cancer data extraction and reporting system using an integrated array of business intelligence tools and resources. The system incorporates an automated patient matching engine and a robust set of data cleansing and standardisation protocols for demographic and clinical data.

Architecture and Integration structures supporting generation of knowledge in the clinical environment: vendor perspective.
Dr David Dembo/ Dr Bruce Ross, Microsoft Amalga

Dr David Dembo is Microsoft’s Business Development Executive for Asia Pacific and Middle East. Prior to that David worked for IBM and Merck Sharp & Dohme. In all three companies David has focussed on enabling the digitization of health systems. David’s qualifications span, medicine, business and health economics.
