The healthcare sector is being transformed through a range of health reform imperatives, including new funding models with more stringent accountability and reporting requirements.

These significant changes are driving a pervasive need for quality data which is essential for meeting the new requirements for accurate comparative analysis and rigour in performance assessment across health service providers.

The realisation of the need for good data is gaining momentum throughout all the disciplines comprising the health workforce as the demands for accurate, timely and reliable data increase.

Many innovative data governance projects are now delivering tangible benefits to consumers and healthcare providers.

Nigel Chartres, the session presenter and facilitator, will share with you the key findings from the inaugural HISA Data Governance Conference held in May 2011 and the second one recently held in Melbourne.  In doing this he will show you how many passionate people are pioneering ideas and are making a positive difference to the healthcare environment through their data governance projects.

This participatory session will provide an overview of these interesting recent developments and encourage you to contribute your ideas for how we might improve our approaches so that we continue to introduce more beneficial change to the health sector through good data governance.
