On 4 November 2010, the Health Informatics Society of Australia (NSW
Branch) forum on "Health informatics – international perspectives and
world-wide health challenges” was held at the AGSM Building of the
University of New South Wales (UNSW).
The event was held in association with the Centre for Health Systems and
Safety Research of the Australian Institute of Health Innovation and
sponsored by the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC). The forum was
opened up by Cliff Hughes (Chief Executive, CEC) who outlined the
Commission’s role in building capacity for quality and safety
improvement in health services.
Professor Johanna Westbrook, Director of the Centre for Health
Systems and Safety Research, Faculty of Medicine at UNSW, and co-chair
of the 13th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics (Medinfo)
held in Cape Town, South Africa in September this year, was a feature
speaker along with a number of participants who were part of the
Australian delegation in Cape Town. Speakers highlighted a number of
areas of work that are going on internationally centred on the building
of effective and sustainable e-health solutions, and their contribution
to the quality and safety of patient care.
The NSW branch is also pleased to report that $303.40 was raised in donations for Care Australia during the evening.
