Spotlight Webinar: Oqea stepped Care Navigator Engine and its application to ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder that begins in early childhood and impacts around one in twenty Australians, which is over 1.2 million people with approximately 5-7% of children and adolescents being affected.

Challenges facing the mental health industry in Australia, including those related to ADHD, encompass various factors such as limited resources, long waitlists for services, and non-standardized assessment protocols.

Waitlists for mental health services, including those for ADHD assessment and treatment, can be extensive due to high demand and limited availability of specialists. Additionally, non-standardised assessment protocols across different healthcare providers and regions can lead to inconsistencies in diagnosis and treatment approaches.

In the upcoming webinar presented by Oqea CEO Marty Weir, he’ll speak to the developing Oqea Stepped Care Navigator Engine.

Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) present promising opportunities to address some of these challenges by offering a pathway to personalized mental health care. By leveraging ML and AI algorithms, healthcare professionals can analyse vast amounts of data to identify unique patterns and social factors contributing to mental health conditions like ADHD.

ML and AI can assist in developing more accurate and efficient assessment tools for ADHD, potentially reducing wait times, and improving diagnostic accuracy. These technologies can analyse various data sources, including patient demographics, medical history, behavioural patterns, and environmental factors, to tailor treatment plans to individual needs.

By considering a wide range of factors beyond just symptom presentation, ML and AI have the potential to enhance the precision and effectiveness of mental health care delivery in Australia and beyond, patients’ behaviour pattern identification and matching to the precise desired evidence-based care within a time sensitive period.

Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will be provided with a contemporary insight into the current Mental Health challenges and innovative digital enhanced step care models being developed within Australia.

  • Understanding of the complexities and digital inefficiencies being faced by patients seeking interdisciplinary collaborative Mental Health care.

  • Explore how technology, specifically ML and AI are accelerating and innovative application of patient Mental Health care models, enhancing the precision and effectiveness of mental health care delivery in Australia and beyond.

  • Recognising that there are other non-pharmacological options being investigated as alternative method to support patients, thus challenging and enhancing existing clinical / medical care intervention.
