Journal Club | Implementation frameworks for end-to-end clinical AI: Derivation of the SALIENT framework

Presented by Dr Anton Van Der Vegt

Modern healthcare is underpinned by the translation of research findings into clinical practice. Regulatory practices in most countries aim to minimize the risks associated with introducing new technologies such as drugs and medical devices. Honest and accurate appraisal of new technologies is also encouraged by clinical researchers adhering to reporting standards. However, despite prolific growth in research into artificial intelligence (AI) based decision support technologies over recent years, particularly diagnostic and prognostic prediction models, translation into clinical practice has been slow and the numbers of AI-based systems of this type implemented into routine care remain very low. Anton will join us to discuss his recently published paper and the pragmatic framework which resolves gaps in existing stage and theme-based clinical AI implementation.
