Transforming chronic care management: The good, the bad, and the not-so-ugly

Hosted by the NSW state branch

When you establish a clinical centre of excellence to manage a chronic disease as complex as cancer, how do you go beyond just attracting the best clinicians and building the best facilities, and incorporate clinical information systems and data governance as part of your strategy?

Associate Professor Gavin Marx will take you through the approach to establishing the Sydney Adventist Hospital’s (commonly known as the ‘San’) Integrated Cancer Centre, which has achieved the best overall results of any outpatient cancer treatment facility in New South Wales for three years-running, and how clinician co-ownership of a robust digital strategy are key enablers of performance, sustainability, and research in the private hospital world.

Ali Besiso will then take you through a deep-dive on The San’s implementation of an Integrated Cancer system and how it interacts with the hospital’s digital ecosystem including the hospital’s EMR, in order to achieve ‘transformation’ status as opposed to just ‘digitisation’ of pre-existing processes. How do you co-design, deploy, and optimise change management including training during peak-COVID lockdowns? Join us to find out some the key lessons – the good, the bad, and the not-so-ugly.
