Digital biomarkers to improve patient outcomes

Digital biomarkers represent an opportunity to capture clinically meaningful, objective data. Defined as objective, quantifiable physiological and behavioural data that are collected and measured by means of digital devices such as portables, wearables, implantable or digestible. Digital biomarkers are increasingly being highlighted as useful to clinicians to monitor and assess patient progress outside of a clinical setting, and by the patient themselves to aid in self-management of chronic disease. Data collected are typically used to explain, influence, and/or predict health related outcomes.

This journal club will examine the usefulness of digital biomarkers to clinicians and patients, and discuss the challenges and barriers to their effective integration into clinical assessment.
