FbT Journal Club - June 2019
Gamification for chronic diseases self-management
Hosted by Vasu Rani
Chronic illness requires repeated task management that can be easily done using technological solutions such as m-health. Various m-health applications available for the self - management of chronic diseases are not used up to there full potential due to various reasons such as lack of motivation, standardization, lack of patient engagement. One of the possible solutions to use these apps is to gamify them. Gamification is the concept of using game design element in the non-game context. Game design elements such as badges, levels and leader board have potential to motivate the patients, to engage patient with their healthcare plan, and can bring behaviour change regarding there healthcare but it is difficult to design and modify gamified m-health application for chronic illnesses.
